James Duddridge, Member of Parliament for Rochford and Southend East, has written to Nick Hurd MP, Parliamentary Secretary, (Minister for Civil Society) raising further concerns that Southend could be undercounted in the recently conducted census.
James has written to, and previously met with, the Minister to discuss his concerns and trying to prevent a repeat saga of the2001 census which left Southend substantially out of pocket and underfunded by the Government.
James said
“The 2011 Census in Southend has been a cause for concern for many years and both David Amess and I are doing all we can to ensure that the 2011 census is not a repeat of the 2001 debacle.
I have also asked the Minister if he can ensure that this is the last archaic bean counting census! With modern technology it amazes me that we are still reliant on this old, out of date method of population counting”
