Further to the announcement by Essex County Council of the lowest increase in council tax since its introduction nearly 20 years ago, James Duddridge MP for Rochford and Southend East, has today congratulated the Council.
James said:
“This is a great achievement and I congratulate the council on fulfilling their pledge to keep council tax rises below inflation. This great news could not have come at a better time, with many people feeling the effects of the economic downturn and shows that Essex County Council take seriously their responsibility to help keep bills down”
Southend Council have made efforts to save money whilst delivering services efficiently. This should be particularly applauded considering that due to errors in the 2001 census, Southend receives insufficient Government funding. In short, we do not get our fair share. I look forward to continuing to work with the Council, to ensure fair funding for Southend in order for the Council to continue to deliver value for money for the people of Southend”.
