James Duddridge, Member of Parliament for Rochford and Southend East has today questioned the Government about the future of the London Array wind farm project, in the Thames Estuary.
James is very concerned that the rising costs that utility companies face, are having a detrimental impact on the future of investments in renewable energy projects. James was very pleased to hear that Ed Miliband, the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, agreed with him that the London Array project should go ahead if the Government want to meet their targets of 15% of all energy coming from a renewable source by 2020.
Backers of the London Array project have questioned publicly whether the project is financially viable due to the additional costs, including the rising costs of wind turbines that they now face.
Speaking today, James said:
“It is essential that projects such as London Array, which would contribute around 10% of the Government’s targets for 2010, go ahead if we are serious about significantly increasing the amount of energy that we produce from renewable sources. I am glad that the Minister has recognised the importance of offshore wind farms like London Array.”
