James Duddridge, MP for Rochford and Southend East, was delighted when local ‘social entrepreneur’ Blaine Robin was commended by the Shadow Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport.
Jeremy Hunt MP spent the day in Southend last Saturday and was particularly impressed to meet Blaine Robin. Blaine started up the Kursaal People’s Foundation football club for youngsters from the area who like to have a kick around and want to be part of a team. The football team is just one of the projects Blaine has set up in the Kursaal area, and the Shadow Secretary of State recognised that together these projects have a big impact on the local community.
Blaine Robin said:
“The football team is all about giving local boys – and girls – the chance to take part in a team sport and generally have fun with extra-curricular activities. It was brilliant to get an endorsement from the Shadow Secretary of State. Jeremy seemed really impressed with the project, especially the fact that on top of being something fun in itself it also contributes a lot to the community in Kursaal.”
James said:
“Jeremy Hunt came to Southend to get a feel for the cultural aspects of the town, so what better person for him to meet than someone who works so hard for his community. I’m sure Jeremy will have taken away some valuable lessons from Blaine about social entrepreneurship and getting young people involved in sport.”
