James Duddridge, MP for Rochford and Southend East, has today congratulated the Southend University Hospital Trust and the South Essex Partnership Trust on being named two of the best hospital trusts in England.
In a report published this week, the Healthcare Commission provided the results of their annual health check of the nation. The South Essex Partnership Trust, based in Rochford, came 6th out of 391 NHS trusts in England. The Southend University Hospital was also near the top as it placed 33rd – with both hospitals scoring ‘Excellent’ for their Quality of Services and Use of Resources. This is a massive improvement on Southend’s 2005/06 scores which were ‘Fair’ and ‘Good’ respectively. In addition, the hospitals were deemed by the Healthcare Commission to have ‘Fully Met’ the core standards and National Targets scores.
In a letter to John Gilham, Chief Executive of the Southend University Hospital NHS Trust, and Dr Patrick Geoghegan, Chief Executive of the South Essex Partnership Trust, James said:
“I am delighted to congratulate you and your staff on your excellent achievement in the Healthcare Commission’s recent report. It is without a doubt that these hospitals fully deserve this recognition as being amongst the best trusts in England.”
The Healthcare Commission has commended the hospitals which have shown improvement in their latest findings, but stress there is still work to be done nationwide in meeting targets for waiting times, cleanliness requirements and ambulance services.
Commenting on the report, James said:
“I do not place the same strict standard on meeting targets as the Government does; but nonetheless it is perfectly clear that the South Essex Partnership Trust and the Southend University Hospital Trust have excelled in their provision of medical services in Rochford and Southend. To be placed as 6th and 33rd respectively out of 380 hospital trusts across England is an incredible achievement and I commend the staff on their efforts.”
