James Duddridge, Member of Parliament for Rochford and Southend East will be appearing on Radio 4 tomorrow on the You and Yours programme from 12-1, where he will contribute to a discussion on adults with learning disabilities.
James will use the opportunity to highlight the case of Martin Ryan, who died as a result of the negligence of staff at Kingston Hospital in December 2005, which was highlighted in Mencap’s report ‘Death by Indifference’.
James recently raised this very distressing case in a debate in the House of Commons. Martin’s mother and sister, who are constituents, are calling for these medical professionals to be named and held accountable for the inappropriate care that Martin received. In his contribution James advised the Ombudsman to name the medical staff involved to ensure that the mistakes that were made in Martin’s case are never repeated.
Martin Ryan’s mother and sister, will also be contributing to the programme.
Speaking today, James said:
“The inappropriate and negligent care that Martin received is truly shocking and it is only right that this tragedy has grabbed the attention of the national media.”
“I hope that the exposure and attention that this case has received will help to stress the importance of these medical professionals being named and held accountable in order for the Ryan family to achieve some form of justice for Martin.”
