JAMES WELCOMES DECISION TO SUSPEND HOME INFORMATION PACKS
James Duddridge
, Member of Parliament for Rochford and Southend East has today welcomed the Coalition Government’s decision to suspend Home Information Packs (HIPs).
In the previous Parliament James raised his concerns about the unsuitability of HIPs on four occasions, the last of which he asked the then Minister, Ian Austin, whether the Government would make it their policy to abolish HIPs.
Home Information Packs will be suspended with immediate effect of 21st May 2010, and then legislation will be required to outlaw them completely.
The news was also welcomed by the
National Association of Estate Agents
who said that Home Information Packs had "failed to benefit homebuyers and actively discouraged sellers."
.
Speaking today, James said:
“I am delighted that early on the Coalition Government has decided to suspend Home Information Packs. They have been a complete disaster and have driven up the cost of buying and selling homes.”
“By suspending Home Information Packs we have honoured our commitment but speed at which this announcement has come really demonstrates the need to get rid of this unnecessary layer of red tape which has hampered the recovery of the housing market. I am confident that this move will help thousands of home buyers and sellers in Rochford and Southend East and across the country”
